Trailblazer

Trailblazer is a long-term personal project of mine, a third person platformer that has given me the opportunity to playfully explore the genre. Gameplay involves precision platforming via the delicate control of a pair of high-powered rocket thrusters attached to the protagonist’s back.

An experimental control scheme, players use the gamepad’s bumper buttons and triggers to control each thrust vector independently.

Everything in Trailblazer is my own work, and it has given me the opportunity to study many different facets of Unreal Engine 4. These include the capabilities and limitations of the physics engine, advanced character locomotion using animation blueprints, creating particle effects using both Cascade and Niagara, and how to make myself sick by letting the camera go upside down.
